August 23 Update
Practice Room Update from Rick Feit, Dean of Performance Studies
As of today, the following procedure has been put in place:
- An information board containing daily updates of practice room and studio closures has been placed next to the security desk on the first floor of Jordan Hall. The board displays maps of the 2nd and 3rd floor rooms, with the out-of-service rooms highlighted; as well as updated lists of room that are currently under construction.
- Each morning, either or both of two interim NEC reps – trombone student Zach Jacobs (one of our summer ushers), and stage crewman Julian Couture, will walk each floor of Jordan, noting current room status and updating current closures on the info board. They will also speak with Steve Derochea, Tishman superintendent, each morning at 8:00 am, for progress reports.
- Zach and/or Julian will then contact PR/Marketing with the relevant information for appropriate dissemination.
- For the next few days, Zach will be stationed at a small desk near security from 8:00 am – 1:00 pm to help answer any questions. Beginning with the start of classes, we will engage a permanent half-time work-study student, who will be stationed in the concert halls office, JH106. This work-study student will serve to both update room status, and to assist with piano practice room scheduling once that system is ready for implementation.
We will continue to disseminate this information to students as appropriate.
More specific information about piano practice rooms (scheduling process and additional facilities) will be available next week.
