August 17 Update

Mike Ryan, Director of Operations and Facilities, reports:

I would like to provide a construction mitigation update and the consequent room availability in Jordan Hall/Brown Hall starting  Monday, August 20, 2012. 

Basement Level:              Room 8 closed; all other rooms, studios open

First Floor:                        Room 103 closed; all other rooms, studios open

Mezzanine Level:            M-14 closed; all other rooms, studios open

Second Floor:                   Rooms 202, 245,247,251,252,256,257,259 and 261 closed; all other rooms, studios open

Third Floor:                      Rooms 302, 303, 347, 356 and 380 closed; all others open

 PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:  With students due to start arriving the weekend of August 25 and 26, I am extremely pleased that we will be able to have so many rooms available for them.  More rooms will become available as we move into the week of the 27th.  The construction team is moving along remarkably well under challenging conditions.  Our concentration has been to get all the heavy work done in the practice rooms so that we can open up as many rooms as possible and the bulk of our remaining work throughout the next three months will be in the corridors and on the roof level.  Please also note that we will have to go back into the practice rooms at some point to make final connections to the installed HVAC equipment.  This work will be scheduled and all students will be informed about which rooms will be taken out of service–usually for a short period of 3-4 hours.

 On Monday the 20th at 7:00 am our cleaning crew will start on the third floor and then the second floor to do a final cleaning of the rooms.  Also starting on the 20th, the stage crew can begin to move instruments back into the cleaned rooms.  I will leave those decisions and schedules to the Performance Services Department. 

Williams Hall:  Will be available for use on August 27.  The hall will be cleaned on August 26. 

Brown Hall:  The heavy construction in the hall will be completed on or about August 22 or 23.  The hall will then be re-painted but will be usable for the luncheon on August 27. 

We will provide another update on Friday August 24. 

We continue to work 6 days a week, 10 hours a day and that will continue.
